KAMPUNG FILM FESTIVAL (មហោស្រពភាពយន្តកំពង់)
Kampung Film Festival is born of the need to remedy the lack of cinema and cultural activities on remote Cambodian islands and villages.
Kampung [kæmpəŋ] means ‘port’ or ‘boat harbor’ in Khmer language, evidenced by the names of four of our provinces adjacent to the Mekong. The term reflects a deep-rooted sense of origins, arrival and community. Kampung, and its variations, is a term also used by Singaporeans, Malaysians and Indonesians to classify and name villages, towns, and neighborhoods. The English word “compound” is derived from this word. Founder: Danech San |
Kampung Film Festival (1st edition)
The first edition of Kampung Film Festival took place on an Koh Sdach island. The festival organized 3 short and 3 feature films to be projected on a huge inflatable screen. Improvised from three kindergarten classrooms, a photography and video exhibition also took place and was open to the public throughout the entirety of the festival. During the day, a stop-motion workshop provided students with materials to work together to create their own short film.
